I have a '13 premium GT and I ordered a pair of speaker adapters from a Tousley Ford. I didn't have to modify them though. All I did was break the tabs off of the ends of my c2-570xs speakers and they fit perfectly. The tabs are already scored and designed to be broken off if needed.
How badly did the 4 ohm JL's affect the volume output of the Shaker system compared to the 2 ohm factory speakers? I know that it takes a 10x increase in amplifier power to double the volume, but it still seems to me that cutting the amps output in half would not be a good thing.
