OP; your stock MT82 car has a Chinese made transmission. DO NOT FORCE ANYTHING!!! Your transmission has shift lock-out, which will not allow you down-shifting into 1st when you will over-rev and grenade the engine. Rev matching is something you need to read all about. It's easy, but you need to understand mechanically what is happening in the transmission and with the engine.

When I come to a light, I just slide it out of gear when there is no force on the drive-line, in that instant between power on and power off, it just slides out of gear with 0 effort. I don't down-shift through the gears, that's just un-necessary wear. With the 3.73s I skip gears quite a bit in traffic.
