Overthinking a simple problem.
The acceptable pressures depend on the load rating of the tire and it's construction and all that info is right on the sidewall, for that tire. That pressure is maximum and is just fine. No tire will suffer for it. It might not be an ideal performance setting but, it is completely safe for the road and in no way terrible advice compared to going by the sticker on the jamb when you may have a different brand or type of tire on the car. Is anyone reasonably trying to suggest that you should go by the door jamb pressures if they contradict what's on the sidewall of the 305 tires and 20" wheels you put on your 2011 V6? Ludicrous.
