OP, Well they are actually called heat extractors. Thus main design intent is to extract heat. Heat in the engine compartment rises and is released out of the heat extractors.

2oo5GT, I did not realize that the under hood blanket/lining could be easily removed and reinstalled. Do you do that for weight reduction or heat relief? Road course or drag strip?
