Yes, the intention was to delete them but you aren't going to melt down perfectly good engine blocks you've already manufactured do, you'll burn up the supply of those. That's how it always is.

Frankly, it's a dumb way to get engine temps under control, because it just creates so much windage in the crankcase, slowing the engine down and loading it unnecessarily. Fine on a farm tractor but, not on a 7k V8 engine.
