The simple fact is this, the 5.0 may have lower torque numbers in the >3000 RPM range, but heres the thing.
Its a DOHC that flows like hurricane force winds
It has a compression ratio that was thought impossible at one time, is engineered very very well to achieve that.
Has a higher rev point that the older motors.
What this means is it has more power as is, and ANY, ANY boost, will be like letting the evil out on the street, combine the DOHC factor and the high compression ratio, and it may only handle light to moderate boost without backing off the compression ratio, HOWEVER, that little bit of boost will make an insane amount of difference with all that flow and crazy compression.
