From personal experience MTX, Alpine, Rockford Fosgate, and Kicker are good reliable brands.

I had a pair of MTX 12" Thundercasts(not the cheap thunder versions out today...were talking '96/'97) which lasted me over 6 years. They lasted another 2 with ripped spider suspensions. Had 2 MTX amps go bad on me...the 2300 lasted 6 years so can't complain, and 81001d about 3 years. Rockford T1 Power series subs sound good in ported enclosures.

I have since switched to Rockford Fosgate Power amps as my choice and Kicker CVX for subs. The new Mustang trunk gives me about 2.0 more cubic feet to work with compared to my '02, so I'm going for a ported enclosure this time.

I love my kicker subs, went from pioneer's of more wattage to them and they are much louder and put out much more bass.
