I need advice from some audio experts

I have a 2012 gt with a shake 500. I have upgraded the front speakers and I'm happy with that upgrade however I want some more low bass. I think what I want to do is buy a single 12 in a box with an amp. I'm not looking to blow anyone away I just want a little more oomph. I want to keep the stock head unit. What am I looking at here in terms of an install?

Thanks in advance.

You'll need a line level converter for your amp if the Shakcer 500 doesn't have a sub output. You tap into one of your speaker lines.

I am running 2 AudioControl LC2i line converters, and they sound great with the signal from the stock head unit. For your purposes, you will need one, and I would suggest tapping the output from the sub amp located just above the driver's side kick panel. There are four sets of speaker wires here as the stock 8" door subs are dual voice coil. You will only need to tap a set from the right and a set from the left channels in order to get a complete sub signal for your new amp to run the 12" sub in your trunk. The wire colors at the front amp are as follows:

Drivers side:
Voice coil #1:
Positive - brown
Negative - blue w/ brown stripe
Voice coil #2:
Positive - gray w/ yellow stripe
Negative - violet w/ white stripe

Passenger side:
Voice coil #1:
positive - white w/ orange stripe
Negative - gray w/ blue stripe
Voice coil #2:
positive - white w/ violet stripe
Negative - gray w/ orange stripe

Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

Check my sig - I love the setup. I also prefer sealed boxes to provide tighter and more accurate bass.

I like JL speakers. And their stealth box is the only thing I would put in my Mustang. There just isn't enough room to build a nice custom box if you need to have usable room left over.

But I have to use my car for work so I need all the room I can spare.

This is the system I am putting in on Saturday. I was going to get everything JL Audio, but the stuff Pioneer is putting out lately is very nice.

Here is what I have so far:

TS-W309D4 12"

GM-D7500M 400w rms for the sub.

TS-D6802R

The only problem with a line converter is the signal they pick up is already distorted by the inductance of the speaker and the output quality of the system. In my experience, anyways. I noticed a HUGE difference when I got a sub preamp output from an aftermarket receiver. But that was a while ago and maybe they are better now.

Why not just get an amp that has a speaker level input and skip the converter? I do like Pioneer gear, so . Remember to set the sub amp to low pass filtering. I do agree with a closed box, since you don't want a crazy amount of bass and it will sound better for rock anyways.

A question with the line out converters... I need to get two of them right and then tap into the left and right sides and just run the corresponding rca's back to the trunk right? I also have changed my mind and bought two 10's. With me now running two subs will that change anything with the install and running wires?

If you are only amplifying the subs, and leaving the other four speakers running off the shaker system, then you only need one line convertor. The LC2i has 4 speaker level inputs, +/- right, and +/- left. Remeber, you only need to tap signal from one voice coil of each of the front subs. The LC2i also has two sets of RCA outputs, but you will only use the subwoofer set to feed the rca cable to the sub amp.

As far as your choice of 2 subs, what impedence are they, and are you planning to bridge a 2-CHANNEL AMP, or use a MONO BLOCK AMP? This will make a difference on how you wire your subs?

alright that's good to know about the line converter. As for the subs I will be using a mono block amp. It will be coming pre-wired though.

The amp you selected has speaker level inputs so you wont need the line out converter at all

that's good to hear. You must know the setup I bought LOL it's a good starter set. It's good to know I won't need that LOC. Do I just tap the line and run it directly into the amp then? I've installed a few amps before years ago, but never with a factory head unit. So that's where my sticking point is.

You need to run the power cable, then tap into the rear speaker wires and run those to the speaker level inputs of the amp. I'm making a mini system too..Using a polk amp with speaker/level inputs and an 8" E3.8 wofer from elemntal design. Going to try to make a custom box that fits inside the spare tire well. Should be a good amount of base and 0 impact on the already tiny trunk space
