I find when doing the sub if you can rotate it then good. Generally, for me, more issue of what sounds better then what sound louder. I take clarity any day of volume. And to the point, only way you can know that is actual do install and rotate the box and listen insdie the car as what sounds best.

Time Delay..
Ok if there isn't any time delay.. all speakers being equal (which they are in this case), there is a thing call the "Speed of Sound", (no this is not a bad coldplay song). The front speakers mite reach your ears in 3 milliseconds.. Rear might be 5 milliseconds.. and Sub could be 6 milliseconds. If you don't fix these time delays there is a loss in clarity. Most home stereo's these days have (Active Processor - Audyssey or cars MS-8) to fix this and many other things. But some car stereo at least have measures as how far the speakers are away from your ear to correct this to some degree.

Many times rear speakers also known as (rear fill) are removed partially because of this. That and rear speaker mess with front speakers sound stage.

for speakers you put 6 1/2 where the door subwoofers would normally go? Where did you find the aftermarket a pillars and were airbags located in a pillars? Overall look very nice. I'm guessing you dynamated the doors to some degree when installed the comps?

@chris - I paid Creative Audio Werks in Phoenix to do this install (~$800). Still feeling the pain from that one. BUT, they did a heck of a job. It looks very professional. Those are stock a-pillars. They took them out and cut them, drilled a port for the tweeter, then mounted it behind the speaker cloth so it would not protrude and look "aftermarket". The rest of the SR60 went into the regular door speaker location. This is a base model GT without the shaker system so there are no door subs. They did dynamat the doors, yes. I don't keep up with audio tech/trends anymore. Timing - I understand now what you meant, but I left that up to Rick to tune since I paid him lots of good money for the install.

@theotherguy - I told Rick that I was *most* interested in high fidelity / quality sound not LOUD. If I wanted to win sound contests I would have put 10 or 15 12" subs in the trunk and a gadzillion watts of amps. The difference between pointing the sub front or back is probably immeasurable. The system is already capable of being too loud as it is so I don't see the point you are trying to make. Rick is a pro, has numerous awards in the business.

Now, he quoted me $250-$300 to install the head unit and metra dash kit.... more pain. Or I could try to do it myself...

@Chris - just so it is clear... I replaced the front oem door speakers with the SR60's. The OEM rear deck speakers are still hooked into the system....I offered to buy another set of SR60's, but Rick said the oem speakers could be crossed/tuned to work and sound just fine. Also, the labor cost to remove/install the rear deck speakers was redonculous. I believe him now, because the sound is crystal clear up to the point where it is too loud and hurts the hearing. :-)

Yup, Rick at Creative Audio Werks in Phoenix did this work. The tweeter is behind that speaker cloth in the a-pillar. The amp is on top of the sub-box underneath the rear deck.

Please report back after the install. I'm curious to see how you will keep SYNC or your steering wheels controls?

Thanks bro,

I think Mallen mentioned that part in another post. It's just that he was the first person to post about his install experience. Hopefully yours will be all good.

I installed one of those steering wheel control adapters in my wife's car and it was pretty straightforward. WELL worth 70 bucks.

I can't make it to the event this time. Monster in law is coming to town for the birth of my son.

Speaking of which, I hope that my wife goes into labor soon because I am growing tired of the pregnosaurus ****.

I'll try to make one of the meets sometime so you can see the install.

The quality of the Metra kit (99-5823CH) is OEM or better. I've seen some complaints about the buttons. They look exactly like OEM buttons to me. Going to try for an install next week.

Oh my..you're subwoofer box is awesome. I want one exactly like it. I have two tens in my trunk but I hate my box. Its not mounted or anything and is always sliding around. I want something clean, stationary, and space saving. Can you do me a favor and take pictures from the back side of the whole box, and from the front with both back seats folded down? Just wanna get a better idea of how everything looks so I can have one made
Thanks

I can't fold the seats down right now since I have a car seat in temporarily. Besides, look at my other thread, I already posted good pics of the box behind the seat. What you see here are the two cover panels that Rick made. I told him that I didn't want to see the sub box, or have it interfere in any way with stuff that i put in the trunk. He actually built the panels so that they cover more of the trunk with carpet than the factory does. As you can see in the pics, the bottom of the rear deck is completely covered. This is really unnecessary, but I didn't want to look at an ugly sub box every time I opened my trunk. For all but die-hard mustang fans, most folks would not know that I have some serious audio gear hiding in there.

I have 25" of trunk space as you can see here:

Here are some wider view shots and from each side:
