Blown Shaker 500 speaker...

Hey everyone,

So the Shaker 500 speaker on the driver-side door is blown. I am looking to replace it with the same one and I wanted to know if you've had experience in getting one from Ford directly. Any idea how much they run for? Should I just get one on eBay? I don't want to spend too much money on this but I don't want to have to put in a whole new speaker system.

Thanks!

Just replace both front 5x7's with a $50 set of 3-way 6x8 speakers from Best Buy. It'll sound a zillion times better and probably cost close to the same.

Agreed. Will cost the same if not more for factory... and guess what? You're gonna blow them again

I've tried 2-way and 3-way speakers and the 3-way sounds better to me. I just got the $50 Pioneer (only 3-ways they had) and they sound much better. You'll also need to go to the install department and get a pair of Metra speaker harness adapters. I think it was $70 total and well worth it.

Hmm... these are 6x8 but they don't look like they'll fit in the door speaker hole. Are these right?

6X8 or 5X7 should fit fine.

If you have doubts, go to custom fit section on Crutchfield and see what fits your car. Once you find your model, go to Amazon or eBay to buy them. Much cheaper that way. What crutchfield sells for $80 would be $50ish on ebay/amazon.

Hope that helps..

Those will fit fine. 5X7 = 6X8, they use the same hole pattern.

However, I would NOT buy them from Crutchfield. I know they are popular, but they are also seriously overpriced.

Same speakers, but $30 cheaper....
Amazon.com: Pioneer TS-A6874R A-Series 6"x8" 3-Way 350 Watts: Car Electronics

And if you want a big Crutchfield type retailer but still want the savings, try SonicElectronix.
