97 mustang someone tried stealing now will not crank

Hi guys my daughter had her car attempted to be stolen. they tried breaking the ignition switch stole her stereo, but now the car will not stay cranked. it will crank run about 2 seconds and then shut off. Anyone know how i can get this thing fixed. someone said it was the PATS, but need some idea's that do not cost a arm and leg. Thanks guys. it is a 97
