2011 Convertible Radio/NAV Upgrade

While the Mustang sits in the garage for the winter, I've been planning a 2000+ mile road trip for a few weeks this summer. In preparation I decided I wanted to install an in-dash GPS in my base trim convertible.

I decided on:
Kenwood DNX570HD
iDatalink Maestro MUS1
Maestro RR

The radio is still in transit, but the Maestro module and MUSi1 dash kit arrived last week. I am VERY impressed so far with the fit and finish of the dash kit.

This weekend I took advantage of a break in the cold weather to prepare for the install. So far I have:
- removed the console and factory radio
- identified the two OBDII wires necessary for install
- removed rear seat and trunk trim in preparation to route wires for a backup camera which will be mounted between the two marker lights.

I hope to get the radio wired to the Maestro harnesses this week then pop everything into the car next weekend. Pics to follow...

I installed my first car stereo well over 30 years ago and have done quite a few since. But I still managed to forget the "Step 1" that is never in the installation guide:

Before disconnecting and pulling out the old system, remember to remove your CD (or cassette, or 8-track, etc.) first!

Looks good please post some more pics as you finish. How are you planning on mounting the camera?

13 GT base, 3.55, Sterling Grey, MGW shifter, BMR LCA's, GT500 AB, silver RTR's, 275/40/19 Michelin pilot super sports, more stereo equipment than I will admit to, more parts to come.

I mounted the camera tonight and it came out great. I put it right between the two marker lamps, and ran the wire through a small notch I cut into one of their mounting holes. I'll post pictures soon.

Now I just need to find power! I asked for help with that here.

Done!

I'm really happy with the way everything came out. As I was looking for a place to mount the microphone I remembered there were some marks on the map light pod, so I drilled a 1/2" hole where the worst of the mark was...

Any updates on how this works? I am really interested on this combo for my non-Sync 2014. I would like the Sync components, but not if it is triple the price.
