94GT: JVC KD-R749BT....crackle sounds????

Okay here's the set-up.....94 GT with a JVC KDR749BT head unit installed harnessed into the stock MACH 460 system, amps, speakers.

It does not have turn on pop associated with typical installations.....what it does do is crackle loudly, like a short or something.

I soldered the harness to the appropriate wires, metered and checked all connections prior to installation. I have pulled the head unit while still connected and moved the harness and wires around and cannot replacate the problem.......any thoughts or suggestions??????

Whenever you have a crackle, or kind of a static sound, it's one of two things. Poor connection, or a short.

I've seen the wires on speakers themselves come together and short out right at the speaker. It'll still play some sound but it's usually really quiet and will sometimes crackle.

Check and recheck all of your connections, and make sure it's wired up correctly.

One more thing that it could be, if the radio has a volume knob/dial, is the potentiometer that's connected to the knob.

In a way to really help, is the sound in any way connceted to the engine RPM ? Or is heard even with the engine off ?

If not related to the engine RPM, check your grounds, and all connections. It's there somewhere.

If related to the RPM of the engine; check for poor Ing wires, verify the coil condenser, alt, etc.

please let us know what you find

Hey Guys thanks for the replies, they are greatly appreciated!

Regarding engine noise / rpm effect there is none, dead silent!

I'm almost thinking there is a grounding issue with the stock MACH 460 amps. The crackle is very loud btw!

I will be running a by-pass: head unit to speakers direct just to rule out the head unit! Just because it is new, doesn't mean it doesn't have issues!

If that works fine, I will move on to the individual amps.

Worst case scenario I will run all new wiring and connections, IF the amps turn out okay!

Like everything else with this car, there will be a bit of a challenge!! Like I don't have anything else to do!!!!
