2000 Mustang V6 Stereo install questions

I am a newbie here to these forums, as well as a newbie to Mustang ownership.

I just recently bought my daughter a 2000 Mustang v6 base model.

It is time to replace the worn out factory stereo system. With the little bit of research I have been able to do, I have found out that this car does not need to use a dash "install kit", the plastic framework that goes around stereos to install in a lot of newer cars.

I am ok with that, but, what do I do with the "CD player" part of the stereo?

I was hoping that a needed install kit would have the choice of a storage area filler, or a block off plate, to put in place ofthe CD player section.

Secondly, I am not sure if this car has the upgraded stereo system with amp included...... I think it may have been called the "Mach" system, not sure.

There is no names anywhere on the stereo or speakers, IE like the "Bose" in one of my other vehicles stereo system.

How do I know without tearing it apart first? I will need to know which wire harness to buy before taking it apart.

Thanks for any and all help !

Welcome to the site!!
Look in the trunk under the sundeck to see if it has a plastic box that houses the factory speakers and amps. Also under the dash, center, below radio is the front amp-if it has the upgraded system.

Thanks Heavy Metal. Will do that this after noon.

Have any ideas on what to do with the CD player portion of the stereo system? Would prefer a cubby hole, but at least a plain block off plate would work. I haven't seen anything like that yet.

I have seen that, and actually was expecting that, before I found out this car doesn't use an install kit.

I am not sure IF that piece would fit......was kinda hoping that someone on these forums has already been down this road and could offer advice, or tell me what they have done.

But, it IS walmart......try it, if no good, take it back because it didn't fit, lol!

I had a brief minute to look at the back trunk area, before daughter took off this morning.

Looks like plain oem speakers, 6x8, and nothing else back there.....no boxes, or amps, or anything that looked like it could be an amp.

Haven't looked under dash yet.
