Got her back after 15 years

We had a 66 fastback in the family for 30 years, my uncle owned it for a majority of that time. Well we all know that life happens sometimes. He sold the car to my mom, keeping it in the family. Well my mom got remarried and her new love sold the car without telling anybody. This all went down in 2000.

Then while looking at cars for my wife, low and behold this same mustang is on ebay and only an hour away from me. Needless to say our baby will be back where she belongs.

I can't believe I actually found this car and got it back.

Very excited about this. There are some goods and bads however. The paint and body are a little more damaged than I would hope, it's not bad and should be an easy fix, the interior is about 50%, the good thing is it has little to no rust. was garaged when we owned it and the gentleman I purchased it from also kept it in his garage. It runs and drives good, with new tires, brakes, carb and a few other little things like hoses, wires and plugs.

The worst thing, which is bad I think, but I can live with it. This was an original "A" code car, which all of us know was a 289 4bbl. It now has a 302 in it. Which isn't really a bad thing.

I don't even care about the bad, Just thrilled to have her back. I paid a little more than I should of, sometimes good memories cost money. I wasn't about to let this car get away again. This was the first mustang I ever rode in and is the reason I am obsessed with them to this day.

Well you are lucky. I sold my old LX to my brother who smacked it up 7 times and then it went on to get knocked around till it just plain fell apart.
It is now a carcus laying in a backyard.
Id love to have it back with just a few minor issues.

Yeah I was lucky on this one. The gentleman that I bought the car from was the same guy that bought it from my mom, so it never changed hands as was taken care of to an extent for the last 15 years.

Just out of curiosity, did you happen to ask him why he changed out the original 289 and what he did with it?

Yeah good thinking. Always good to have the # matching block if you could get it.

Yeah, the original motor is long gone, it was changed out before we bought it according to my uncle. When he bought it there was a 351w in it, then they swapped it out for the 302. I was really young when this car was purchased and for some reason I thought it was still stock when it was sold. It would be cool if it were numbers matching, I really don't care either. I just wanted to get my uncles car back.

I have actually decided to give this car back to my uncle, it was his car and he deserves to have it back. he has done alot for me in my lifetime, and I want to return the favor. The cool thing is he thinks I am just asking questions about the car. He doesn't know that I bought it, and has no clue he is getting it back

I am going to try and pick the car up this week, my uncle will be with me to look at the car. No money will change hands unless he is satisfied. I ruined the surprise, but I would rather him be happy with it.

The car itself is a little rough from the pics, my uncle and I will go over the car from top to bottom, for stuff that the pics don't show.

I'm not totally sure what some of the important things I really need to look at on this car. I know that the torque boxes and the floor pans are notorious for rust, what else should I check for or be concerned about that isn't in the pictures.?
