Hi Veronica,

Same as most on this thread, the door on my 1965 is missing its dataplate. I have managed to find some of the dataplate details except I'm missing the build date?

It's a GT with 4 barrel carbi and dual trumpet exhaust through the rear valance. Holes through radiator support seem to be drilled not stamped for foglights. Could it be a factory GT?

The VIN is 5R07A230950 , are you able to weave your magic and advise of the build date?

Thanks in advance

Hi Veronica,

I really hope you can help me. I bought a nice 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible the VIN# is 5F08C754361
Unfortunately the door-tag is missing. Can you help me to get the missing codes for the built date, DSO, Axle and Trans? The interior looks like a standard black interior, and it comes with the automatic transmission.

Thank you very much in advance, and have a nice day,
Rocky

My guess is around 11-12T, June 1965.

Hi Jason, I'm not Veronica as you can see.! I would guess your build date is something around 10-11T which is 10-11th June 1965.
Since the holes in the rad support are drilled, I would say it's not a real GT. Check for exhaust reinforcements hangers at the back of the rear seat. See pic. If you have them, than probably is a real GT.!

Looking for build date

Veronica,
Sorry if you get multiple requests because I also pm'd you. I wasn't sure the best way to get my request to you, but did read on your website that you suggested posting to this forum, so here goes. I am in the process of purchasing a 66 fastback that is unfortunately missing the door tag. I think most of the info for the car is going to be obtainable, but I would like to know the approximate build date of it. The vin is 6F09A263396. Also, according to the build date, could it have come with a BW T-10 or more likely with the Ford Toploader 4 speed? Thanks for your help!

I don't have the VIN data that others have so I can't suggest a date. However, even though they aren't mentioned in the '66 shop manual, Ford was still putting T-10s in some '66 Mustangs. Our July-built '66 GT has one of them. Ford was making their own 4-speed by then but not yet enough of them to meet the demand. The '66 T-10 design was also slightly different than for any other year so you can't just blindly follow the instructions for disassembly printed in the '65 shop manual. The main shaft had an extra flange added and the 2nd gear Torrington bearing was eliminated.

Thanks Ivy66GT for the response. Your T-10 info about your car will be helpful. Hopefully Veronica will have an opportunity to find an approximate build date for mine.

Garage
If you are still attempting to build a data base, I acquired a San Jose built 65 Mustang GT a while back.
vin# 5R07A245169
door tag
Body 65B
Color 5
Trim 67
Date 16U ( July 16, 1965 )
DSO 72
Axle 1
Trans 6

Very helpful info in these threads!

Hi Adriandingdong - I am a previous owner of 5F09A181411, and just discovered this post about the car. To answer your inquiry, it did not have the original door tag when I bought it in the early 1990's. I believe it was originally a Raven Black car with black standard interior. The previous owner to me painted it a color close to Twilight Turquoise, but it's not quite the right shade, and put in the white deluxe seat covers. I completed the conversion to an all-white interior with black appointments myself, and had the motor professionally rebuilt to concours standards. I also had the stock A/C system added and added the console. I sold the car in July 1996 in Southern California to finance the restoration of a 1964 1/2 Mustang Indianapolis 500 Pace Car coupe, one of 190 made and one of 3 in MCA Concourse Gold condition.

I would like to know more about 5F09A181411 and how it is doing now! The engine appears to have been well used since its days as a concours showpiece.
