I was thinking of installing Dynaliner (by Dynamat) on the trunk floor. It seems to offer sound deadening as well as offering a durable finished surface. Has anyone used this product in this way? My big question is whether or not it will span gaps without deforming. I’m debating on whether or not I should add 1/4” plywood over the gas tank so everything sits flush. The downside is extra weight and extra cost. Plus will the plywood then rattle and mak a worse acoustical condition?
I used 1/2" Dynaliner over Dynamat in my trunk floor, and have all that covered by a reproduction trunk liner. The Dynaliner gives a firm cushion for the trunk floor, smooths out the ribs of the steel floor and the cabin is a lot quieter with it.
I would not recommend using plywood. Ford has used a masonite type material in trunk floors to span over spare tire wells and that is probably more fire resistant. I don't think that's necessary in this case.
I'm not familiar with the Dynadeck product. It's meant to be the finished top surface so you'd have to trim it perfectly around the edges and such. I'm terrible at that sort of thing so would not recommend it.
