Lakewood ~ Ansen Whatev ... right?

Bought a bellhousing on Ebay (stop laughing) advertised as Lakewood turns out it's an old Ansen steel scattershield. The Lakewood block plate has different bolt patterns so here I am seeking reasonable solutions ...
This thing is going to sit behind a 302CI SB Ford and in front of a Toploader 4-Speed.
Oh the questions:
1. If I resolve the block plate thing by drilling and welding, is the Ansen going to create header (or other) clearance nightmares I don't yet see coming?
2. You can see in the pictures the severity of the hole misalignments. I don't want to invest more time in this only to find other new mines planted in this venture.
3. Anyone know if the depth of this thing is the same as a stock bell housing + the Lakewood #15200?
4. I asked the seller to help make this right: I bought it awhile ago is the problem. We'll see where that goes.
From what I gather, this thing is probably 50 years old now. There's nothing really wrong with it beyond the whole block plate thing.
Sage wisdom welcomed.
