What size Drag Radials to use?

After the upgrades on my 2012 GT Automatic: 3.73 gears, Boss 302 Intake, JLT CAI and BAMA Race tune, I am ready for the Drag Radials. Was debating on the MTs in 325/50-15s or 275/60-15. With street tires (PZero 235s) absolutely NO traction in 1st - 3rd. Which tire for my setup at the Track, strictly track use only. Thanks

275/60-15 M/T ET Street Radial PRO. Then see me for some UPR Products suspension for MAX grip!

I would also recommend going with the 275/60/15. Bigger isn't always better when it comes to drag racing. The objective is to get the lightest tire possible that allows you to hook up. You'll be in great shape with a 275/60. I run that same tire on my 2011 GT and this will allow you to trap at the very top of 4th gear with the 3.73's. If you have to shift into 5th, you'll be loosing some time.

Besides the tire, you may want to look into some suspension mods. Upper & Lower Control Arms and a set of Lowering Springs is definitely a good first step!

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions or need some assistance in the near future.

325's would be better if you ran 18" tires because you'd have less sidewall to work with. For 15's though, 275's will be good because you can lower tire pressure and get more of that tire on the track for grip.

275/60-15 M/T ET Street Radial PRO for sure! I am running them and they have helped a ton. I am also running UPR's Pro Street Series suspension and have never regretted it nor looked back!

If you run the 15 inch wheels though, you are going to have to get the rear sway bar relocation kit ($20). The 15 inch wheels won't fit with the stock sway bar btw. The MT's with 15" race stars are super lightweight too.

I just put 325/50X15 on my 2014 GT. Havent been to the track yet. But with drag racing being all about consistency I wanted to put as big a tire as possible to hopefully eliminate any chance of tire spin. I know it will kill a bit of ET but a car that repeats wins.

First let me say thanks to you and the AM Team. I took your advice (others here also, thanks) and purchased the 275/60/15 drag radials (Nitto 555R). I installed the Boss 302 intake, JLT CAI, Ford Racing 3.73 gears and BAMA Race Tune. With the DR's, my 2012 GT hit 12.47 @ 114mph. I was hoping for 12 flat, but 12.47 was my best time of the day. everything else was 12.5 @ 113. Was a little disappointed but I think its mostly due to my inexperience, not installing the lower control arms and regular gas. I am very pleased with my gas mileage, 22 city/hwy combined going to and from work. Still, all in all, my GT is very quick. It is stronger and much faster as I pass the 1/8th mark, pulling very strong as I pass the finish line. Will keep AM posted as I pursue faster times and continue to up grade. Over all very pleased and had much fun at the Gulfport, MS Track, Thanks again

Are your DR's hooking up (no spin)?
What is your rpm's at the finish line?
You want to be at the top of your final gear (3rd or 4th) at the finish line.
I believe your tires are 28" diameter which makes your gear a little taller.
I am running the stock 3:15 gears with 275/50/15 M/T Drag Radials (26" diameter) and I go through the 1/4 mile at the top of 3rd gear (7,400 rpm's). I just added a Boss intake but we haven't got it dialed in yet. Best times so far have been 11.69 e.t. ; 60 ft 1.648 at 117.10 mph.
From what I have read the best e.t.'s have been with 3:31 gears.

2014 GT 5.0 Premium (Ordered 2/1/2013, received 3/20/2013) 6A - 401A premium trim - Steeda CAI - (Mike Rousch) SCT Dynojet custom tune - Lethal offroad H-pipe - J&M LCA's - BMR relocation brackets - Circle D 5C converter - DSS aluminum drive shaft - front sway bar delete kit - stock mufflers - and a stock 3:15 gear. Best pass so far - 60 ft. 1.577, 1/4 mile e.t. 11.567, mph 117.22.

I really did not check the RPMs when I crossed the finish line. However, my GT is pulling very strong, (note: mine is an automatic) when I hit 3rd to the end of the quarter. I tested my take off and 1st shifts to 2nd @ 7000 and 2nd to 3rd at 7000. I know that my car should be hitting at least 12 flat. I am sure it is operator error. Was wondering if I should shift myself, will take to the 1/8 mile track Friday and do some test starts. Not much spinning with my Nittos to answer your question. My 60 ft is 2.0 flat. with 8.1 at 1/8th. I know it can do much better, any advice is appreciated

Yeah, something is off. What were the conditions like that day? With all those mods you should be in the low 12's. I ran my 2013 auto GT on 3-21-2014 @ Cecil County and ran a 12.24 with only Roush axle backs and AM Tune on 2 years old stock Pirelli tires. I do remember reading somewhere that the 3.15 gears that come with the autos where actually better for the 1/4 mile runs in the AT6.

Best 100% stock 1/4 time = 12.79

OK, AM is sending me new tune for my GT, should have shift points at 7500 RPMs. Will try that first. If I have it programed by Friday, will take to the short track and see what happens. What about the Circle D 5c torque converter? what difference does it make for a daily driver, when just easy going stop and goes? Thanks

With the 5c there is a fair amount of slippage around town but I am used to it now. It is definitely worth it though. It dropped my 60 ft time from 1.912 to 1.699 the first time out. It has even gotten better since then. Keep us posted on your results.

I will keep you posted. I am sure with the new tune and proper launch, I can achieve 12.0. Hoping for at least a 1.8 60 ft. Thanks

Reprogramed my GT with the new tune from American Muscle. Shifting at 7300 - 7500 rpms. Went to 1/8th track Friday nite. With some wheel spin, I managed to cut .3735 off my 660 ft time. This should get me close to the 12.0 next time I get to 1/4 mile track next month. A good launch without wheel spin and I could see 11.9, which is my goal.
