My other project

I've been working on this for ages but am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Here's some close-ups of body work. Try to guess what it is.

Don't let the custom electrical work fool you.

That and the engine color should get you there.

Don't know my 'Birds that well. The pic of the roof where it meets the rear cowl and the one of the rear quarter were my only clue.

Gold.... Wanna say I've seen it before, but didn't know that it was nailed down to a particular model year. Being that it has a fuel fill door on the side of the car and not on the rear as was common on lots of cars for the time, best I can do here is say post-1965.

After the two seat (55-57) Ford did three successive models with this large unit chassis, each a three year run. 58-60 is today called the "square bird" because of it's massive upright grill. 61-63 I like to call the "rocket bird" because of it's bullet nose and huge round taillights. The rear quarter panel with the gas door show the "jet age" styling; 64-66. The engine color is semi-gloss black (Duplicolor calls it Ford Engine Black). It was the last year before they went to corporate blue.

This was two years ago before I stated on the bodywork. That hood turned out to be full of bondo and dents right at the front where the lettering goes and could not be re-used. Likewise with the passenger fender due to rust at the top horizontal line.

I'm not sure how many years the gold was used for the air cleaner and valve covers. I think this was the last year for the "baldy" style covers.

This is fresh from the builder and after I installed the rocker set, intake and carb. Hydraulic roller lifters, roller timing set, roller rockers, Sanderson headers.

This was a non-AC car, and of course that wouldn't do. Back in the day the compressor was a twin-cylinder monster and took the place of the power steering pump, and the pump got moved low on the driver's side with remote resevior. It made servicing the engine a nightmare.

I've made a large number of electrical modifications including changing from a 40 to a 100 amp alternator, and the small V belt was squealing no mater how tight I made it.

The first picture shows a power panel from a 2003 Focus mounted forward on the drivers side. This houses all the fuses for the new stuff and helped me to clean up the engine bay from the jumble of old relays.

My solution was to install a March serpentine system. The single belt was $2000 and the twin was $800. Either negated the stock fan so I put in an electric from a Mark 8. By mounting the radiator forward ahead of the frame and tilting it forward I gained enough clearance, about 1/4".

Finally got all the parts painted- major issues with paint. Body fully assembled, still need to tweek fenders and front bumpers, install grill...

Interior is now Mad Max! Had to do a partial install for the mandatory state inspection.
