Tne age old torque versus horsepower debate

The other day I was at a stoplight and I saw a Ranger race a Scion FR-S. The Ranger whooped the scions azz. I'm assuming it was a v6 but I'm not sure. What were the v6 Rangers making? It couldn't have been much over 200 hp if even that much. I think the FR-S is rated at 200 or so but at like 8k rpm or something ridiculous like that. Anyway I got a good chuckle out of seeing the ranger leaving him in the dust.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.

Who knows what the ranger had under his hood. Plus it matters if the FR-S is auto vs manual. The manuals are almost a second faster to 60...

True about the Ranger but it sounded pretty stock. It could have had a cai maybe but it defiantly wasn't a v8 or blown. I think the ranger was an auto and the frs a manual, just a pseudo educated guess on how they sounded and time between shifts and such. I guess chalk this race up to displacement and the differences in powerbands. The frs might have eaten the ranger alive in a hwy situation. I've never driven scion but I had a celica gts for a little while in the early '00's. It was ok on the highway but it stunk off of the line because it didn't really start making power until nearly 5k rpms and usually by that time it was too late.
