It’s a sad day for Ford Royalty. The Mississippi Highway Patrol has just bid farewell to the force’s last Crown Victoria police intercepter.

The Crown Vic has been a part of Mississippi law enforcement for more than 30 years, going back through multiple generations of the venerable big sedan. It’s an impressive feat for them to still be using one in regular patrol, since the last of the Vics rolled off the assembly line way back in 2011. Since then, forces have moved toward the Taurus-based Police Interceptor Sedan or, more commonly, the Explorer-based Interceptor Utility.

The last Mississippi Crown Vic wore the state’s typical and subtle dark grey paint with a simple red and blue stripe combo. No word on how many Crown Victorias are still in forces across the country, though the figure must be dwindling by the day.

“The “Crown Vic” has honorably served the Mississippi Highway Patrol for over 30 years and we hate to see her go,” said the Highway Patrol Twitter account, calling the car “the workhorse of the law man.”

Sad to see it go, but its an underdog performer by past standards and today for highway use. I can't blame Ford, for stopped production after 2011.

The newer SUV interceptors are pushing 400 hp with the 3.0 Eco.

The 4-door sedan responder with its little 2.0 is pathetic. Fit for meter maid duty.

And the base F-150 with the 3.5 Eco is a little better.

One good thing about the CVI is it had a good turning radius and was rock solid. But overall the CV, had more combinations of brakes and suspensions any other car I know of. But they never would install a 3-valve 4.6 in the car which was a major complaint that Ford ignored and Chevy and Dodge ultimately seized upon.

Maybe Ford will follow their wacky trend and resurrect the CV as a 2 door electric and call it a CV EV.
