VW Golf R and Maserati Quattroporte

So I was headed home from work one night and came across a guy in a brand new Golf R who was feeling frisky. I know they've got AWD and are pretty quick so we took a quick detour into Mexico for a little friendly competition. I'm running the JLT 107mm CAI and a custom 93 octane tune along with some suspension goodies to help me hook and handle corners (rear LCAs, Koni shocks/struts, Steeda Sport springs, Whiteline adjustable panhard bar, SR Performance strut tower brace), so I figured I'd walk him and call it a day. Turns out my clutch doesn't like the new intake and tune, so he caught and passed me on the big end when I got locked out of 5th (rolling 45 mph start). So... lesson learned. In the next few weeks Roxanne is getting an Exedy clutch, Exedy flywheel, and a McLeod clutch cable. I'm hoping to find myself in Mexico soon with that same gentleman after the breakin period, and if I do I'll be sure to update everyone. In the meantime, I have to settle for my Maserati Quattroporte kill Short version of that story is that a guy thought spending $100k+ on a Maserati meant he had the fastest car on the road, and I politely showed him that he didn't. Also in Mexico obviously.

'12 Candy Red Metallic GT (Roxanne):
Current - 3.31 gears, SR Performance strut tower brace, Koni orange shocks & struts, Whiteline panhard bar, Steeda Sport springs, BMR rear LCAs, JLT CAI, 93 octane tune, Barton shifter bracket, Raxiom projector headlights, Exedy Stage 3 clutch, Exedy lightweight flywheel, McLeod clutch cable, MBRP Installer axle-backs
Coming soon - ???
Coming eventually - more suspension upgrades (front LCAs, rear UCAs, front and rear sway bars), maybe a turbo?

You might want to look into a Blowfish racing bracket. That gear lockout is usually from the way the shifter is mounted to the transmission.

She's got a Barton shifter bracket so I'm hoping it's more the clutch than the bracket, but if this continues after the new clutch I'll definitely check out the Blowfish bracket.

Interesting... I have the 2-post now but if moving to the Blowfish really makes that big a difference I might have to do that. Gear lockout is quickly becoming one of my biggest pet peeves.

Yes, agreed. It doesnt get rid of the clunkiness going into gears, but it keeps your shifter from not lining up with the trans.

I've never heard of a lockout into 5 gear.

Was the Maserati a different race? How far ahead of the VW were you when he caught you?
