Axle Back Exhaust for GT500?

Hello,

My dad owns a 2007 GT500, and I was wondering what your opinions are on axle-backs for the GT500..

I am personally looking for a much louder and deeper tone for his car, and I wanted to get a set that has the LEAST amount of drone possible. I was looking at the Borla stingers or FRPP stingers (I think they are the same just the FRPP one is cheaper because mufflers arent like stainless plated or whatnot)

He drives alot of highway when its nice out, so I want something isn't unbearable from a drone standpoint.

This a b-day present from me to him, so I want to find the best combo for him -- if you could also suggest places to buy it too I would appreciate to get the best deal

Stingers have a LOT of drone - had 'em on mine for awhile and removed them after a couple months. KR's are almost as deep, but without any drone.

I have the Ford Racing Stingers on mine. Love the sound but hate the fit. No matter what I have tried they simply will not center up.

Sound is ok and very little drone but I like the solid sound. I can listen to the radio, talk with the wife and enjoy the ride at any speed.

The fit issue takes all my "likes" away though and I am considering something different soon.

What are KRs? I would like these if they are loud w/o drone.

KR axlebacks, are as the name suggests, the stock mufflers from the GT500 KR:

American Muscle sells 'em too: Ford Racing FR500S Mustang Axle-Back Exhaust (05-09 GT) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

I have Magnaflow axle-backs on my 09 gt500 and it sounds great at start-up but I think the drone is a bit much on the highway. When I decide to pull the trigger on the Kooks X pipe I'll probably change to some SLP loudmouths (I haven't heard anything bad about them) just that they are loud when you get on it, but nothing about drone.

KR mufflers are probably your best option. No drone, and they fit extremely well. BTW- they're also known as FR500S mufflers. I have 'em on my KR, and had a set on my Bullitt 'til recently. I wanted the Bullitt a bit quieter, so now it has some JBA muffs, but they don't fit as well as the KR muffs did. Get KR muffs for pop's GT500. If you want it sounding just like a KR, you can also bolt in a KR style H pipe to replace the stock X.

I have Corsa axle backs on my 2009 GT500 - the sound is sick and zero drone - just pure muscle car growl ! Good luck with your decision

Hey man I have the KR mufflers and there awesome. Awesome roar and zero drone..When I first got them I put them on with my stock X pipe and they were great but recently switched the mid out to the Phrp H-pipe and its just plain sex to the ears now...still NO drone and a deeper roar with the H Pipe....Trust me, you and your dad will have the best of both worlds, Zero drone while cruising and an animal while hammering the pedal, Good Luck!!!
