0-60 times

According to the specs Ford has released for the 2013/14 GT500, the 0-60 time is 3.6 seconds. I've been doing some trials (granted on the street not a drag strip) and have not been able to get below 4.3. I'm not complaining, but I'm wondering what has to be done to get under 4 seconds. After about 5-6 runs, using the LC, I figure the tires had warmed up. Tried sport mode, no diff. Tried no traction control, and just burned too much rubber. Road is flat, nicely paved, temp was mid 70's.

You have to keep in mind that the convertibles are heavier than he coupes. It's like trying to get those times with a passenger that weighs 250-300 lbs.

Tires are the original equipment Goodyear F1, so they're the same as what Ford would have used when they set the time.

Pete
The Shelby convertible weighs 200lbs more, or 5% more, so I'd expect a couple of 10ths difference but not almost a full second.

Maybe they do it without the launch control? I can't do that without doing a burnout.

Does a 0-60 in that beast with 3:31 gears even require a 1-2 shift?

The keys to great 0-60 times are Tires, Suspension, and Practice. UPR control arms, Sticky tires, and mastering the clutch slip will definitely get you there. My car makes GT500 hp (and unfortunately weighs about the same as a GT500). Check out this launch-

Just ran into a friend who drag races a '70 and he told me that, even with slicks on the street, he won't get the same times as on a track. He'll spin a bit all the way through 1st gear. On the track, with the prep and glue they lay down, he'll spin 1 1/2 rotations and then sticks the rest of the way. I guess the only way to get the sub 4 times is going to take it to the strip.

I hope to get it to the strip in a few months. I'll update the times when that happens
