cheap car for a car guy?

im gonna have to get rid of the stang i just cant afford it, and pissing me off more because I put so much money into it and took care the best care of it, and now some other jerk is gonna luck out on it all and try to stiff me for 2 hail dents you can barely see(doesnt even have a scratch always garage kept and paint is in perfect condition).. but im not surprised, gods been taking crap away from me for all my life.

I'm trying to think if there's a car that I can get super cheap and make nice and do my own work on. but these days there's really no such thing as a cheap car - when you do a google search you can find lists of 'cool cars under 5k' but in reality they go for double what people say they do. there aren't even any fox bodies in my area for less than 8k unless its a 6 thats been beaten to death and covered in rust, then you're looking at 5k. :/

maybe i should just go back to computers.

Nvm it's okay I'm just gonna grab a cheap whatever car. But considering how well I got in habit of taking care of cars it will run and look better than most still.

Learn from me all ya kids and etc looking at buying a new stang. I left the military with over 25k in my bank and now I'm living paycheck to paycheck. Nothing drains a bank account faster than a car and unless you got a big income your life will be hell. There's a reason people don't keep these cars for long its just too expensive. I'm gonna file for disability and try to just get through this life.

I can relate, I was a microsoft service specialist and built gaming and audio pc's. My new 2014 DIB is breaking me quick too. Now everyone buys tablets & smartphones & I get very little business. I live pay check to pay check myself. I do private "caregiving" and make decent money as I have a medical background. Stay strong!

I was fortunate to be able to buy my '11 with cash, so no payments. Been out of work for a year, now, and would have had to sell the car a long time ago if I had payments.
Anyway, for a good inexpensive car, look into taking a trip out west after you sell yours. Fox Mustangs, for instance, can be had for $2000 and up around here (SF Bay Area). Rust is a non-issue out here, except for rare instances, so you can get very solid cars. Heck, you can find beater '60s Mustangs for under $10k pretty easily.

Hope things improve for you soon!

I recently looked at a fox body with a near perfect body, new paint, T-5 trans, and a 347 stroker for $4,000. It was the prettiest fox I'd ever seen and would snatch a kink in your neck. I've looked at 4.6 2vs in good condition for around $5,000 to $8,000, and I've seen two 2005-2006 GTs for around $9,000 with 120,000-150,000 miles and bodies in perfect condition. It can be done, just lay back, relax, and be patient. You'll find a wonderful car that you can make even better, and things will look up soon.

Current:
2007 Mustang GT 302 stroker 6060 swap, 3.73 gears, Hidden Hitch Receiver, Barton Short Throw, JBA LTs, Borla Touring Axle Back, Lito tuned SCT X4. BMR SP009, Bilsteins, J&M CC plates, J&M LCAs. 4 Piston Brembos
DOB GT450 with VMP Gen II 2.3 TVS | 13/14 GT500 HE & IWP | GT500 hat & DW340s | FRPP 52lb | CMS Stage 2 Blower Cams | Comp 113 Springs & Retainers | 8 rib conversion | Track Spec GT500 Vents | PTFE Heat Barriers

What color is your current Stang? I am seriously looking into buying a 05-09 model, what year is yours? I have about 7k saved up right now.
