I have a 2015 mustang gt
It has 40,000 miles
It takes about 6-7 seconds to start
Once it starts it drives good without any problems
I took it to a Ford Dealer and no codes came up, they checked everything and it all came up good
They told me it could be my aftermarket exhaust, any suggestions?
Tough one. If the problem persists, I would run a scan tool periodically to check for codes. I currently use the Topdon AL201 Diagnostic tool. It's inexpensive, and can be found at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075CYF65B
Oh yeah it's the exhaust causing the problem for sure, because the exhaust has everything to do with starting, LOL . . . How will you ever be able to take them seriously again when they give you advice like that?
(I assume you only have aftermarket mufflers, if you have aftermarket headers and all the way back then I guess there is some possibility there could be something screwed up in the tune but even that is a big stretch.)
Always try the simple things first: weak battery . . . and that might not show up in any test. For about $100 or so you can pick up a new one at WalMart and plop it in there, and see if that cures it.
+1 in the fact you need to go to another shop or if still under warranty another dealer. If still under warranty don't stress yourself and throw money away as you need to make this their problem as that is one of the reasons why you spent the money for a newer car right?
I wish somebody had got to you before you wasted money on a new bat. Most parts stores will test the batt and alternator free of charge to let you know the health of each. With that said go get the alt tested.
I am actually have a similar issue on with my 02 GT and I am thinking for me fuel pump, alternator, or maybe starter which all come to mind here. You are in a better spot currently as yours starts so it gives you time to go and get some tests. For me I am parked and not starting and had to get towed home.
Check your battery. It has caps that you can remove and check the fluids inside. Mine were low, I topped them off with water, and I used a trickle charge to bring it back up to full. If you let the car sit for more than a week the battery will be weaker too.
hmmmm . . . your original post said "slow crank" which sounds like it is struggling to turn over which suggested the weak battery . . . do you mean it cranks weakly/slowly with the starter; or does it crank nice and strong and quick, but take a long time to start up?
If it is cranking weakly/slowly, my next guess would be weak starter or bad connections to the starter. This probably would not throw any codes.
I would only suspect the aftermarket exhaust if the engine was hard to start after the car has been warmed up, but started up ok when the engine was cold. Aftermarket headers could radiate extra heat around the starter and a hot starter has a higher internal resistance, and would cause difficulty cranking.
I hope someone else can chime in with more specific knowledge, but meanwhile I'll keep thinking . . .
If it is cranking good and strong, that rules out weak starter.
Apparently something is taking some time to get going or get up to speed; first thought is fuel pump / fuel pressure.
On older years, you could turn on the ignition to turn on the fuel pump and let it build fuel pressure. Can you do that on your car; or is it push button start? If you can, try turning on the ignition for about 5-10 seconds before starting; then see if it fires right away.
You should be able to do that with a push button start vehicle by pressing the button to start and not depressing the brake pedal. Everything electrical gets powered except the starter. The message center tells you to "DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL TO START" and "FULL ACCESSORY POWER ACTIVE."
Wait 10 seconds then press the brake and start button at the same time.
1st in with the suggestion to go to another shop. Aftermarket exhaust!?!?!?!? Unless it is something bizzaro that ain't what I would say and I would want some explanation before I agreed with/accepted that guess..
somewhat dangerous if you don't know what you are doing (have spray bottle of water and fire ext there) but try starting fluid that will point you towards fuel or spark issues.
Check fuel pressure at fuel line hight pressure and low pressure. If vehicle sit overnight and have difficulty start up, could be leaking check valve or leaking fuel injector.

RESOLVED SLOW CRANK/NO START ISSUE
I had the same issue. I changed nearly everything I could think of that would cause a slow crank/no start issue (battery/starter/throttle body/clean wires/check fuses/relay/bridge spark/ignition etc) The issue was the crankshaft position sensor ($18 value) and the car started right up no problems. I also changed the camshaft sensor at the same time as well. Hope this works for you. I am here to share to as many people as possible. Goodluck all.
