S550 performance models: What do you want to see them build?

With the launch of the new Mustang here, I thought Id start a thread about possible upcoming performance versions of the S550. So far, a GT350 has been rumored with a bit of an HP increase, possibly for MY2016.

What performance variant would you like to see?

MY personal hope is that there is a GT350, as a successor to the Boss 302's place in the lineup. With any luck there will be a fair number of units available, perhaps with a monster N/A 5.0 (450+ hp). Ford Racing S and R variants available as well.

Would love to see a return of the SVT Cobra nameplate as a dedicated streetable drag racing focused car. Power from a factory supercharged 5.0 with all forged internals. Think base v-6 trim with crazy supercharged 5.0. Perhaps an SVT Cobra Jet version offered over the parts counter through Ford Racing.

Then as a top line model, a return of the GT500 with the Trinity 5.8L and a Nurburgring tuned suspension plus normal GT500 bells and whistles.

With any luck all you 2011-2014 GT500 owners will dump them for these new performance variants... so I can then pick one of em for myself! Muahahaha!!

I like the idea of the GT350. Big horsepower has been done for a while now. I think moving in the direction that the Boss 302 was headed is a great idea.

Anybody can do big power but lets see some other tricks as well.

Look at the F-150 Lightning. It was fast for its time but did little else. The Raptor, on the other hand, has lots of power but it is also a very capable offroad truck.

GT350-esque car
-aluminum and carbon everything
-plastic (light!) interior
-14" 6-piston brakes
-Torsen T2R
-real suspension- something monotube, adjustable, and coilover, with enough spring
-flared fenders for 18x13" wheels out back and 18x12" wheels in front.
-345/35/18 rears
-335/30/18 fronts
-optional aero package w/ huge wing and giant splitter
-reverse ducted hood with laid-over radiator
-5.2L, 8200RPM flat crank coyote making ~500wheel
-Tremec Magnum XL

I would buy this car if they could make it weigh ~3300lbs

I want an S550 version of the Boss 302S that has interior and is street legal, with bigger wheels and tires

2002 C5 Z51. MCS 2WNR TT2 coilovers, 18x11 Forgestars, 315's, yada yada. Built Z06 T56. Bolt ons. Coming soon to a CAM event near you.

2013 F150 6.2L. 9mpg.

Im pretty sure we are past the rumor stage for the GT350. More rumor like is that it will have a 5.2L with a flat planed crank. It will be more like a Boss 302 than the Trinity GT500.

jaja6009 I did some research:

Horsepower War: The "Voodoo" V8 Could Be Ford's Answer To The Z/28 | AmericanMuscle.com Mustang Blog

Play the video. That does NOT sound like a "normal" Ford V8. Dare i say it is sounds kind of "boxer" like.. could be the flat plane Voodoo.

With any luck they bring the GT500 nameplate back AND simultaneously run a GT350. Very exciting times if your a Mustang/Ford enthusiast!!!

This has been a Mustang issue for a long time - including GT500. Funny since Challenger Hellcat gets a tough 8 speed automatic transmission with 707 HP engine

Lexus IS-F 8-speed auto is seriously a joy to drive. automatic engine rev matching on manual trigger downshift, solid solid feel in every gear.

Would be nice if they offered a race oriented dual clutch automated manual or genuine 6-8 speed race tuned auto as an option.

Of course, a TR-6060 as the manual trans instead of the MT-82 as standard on the GT and GT350 would be nice.

I'd personally like to see a Twin-Turbo 5.2 GT500 :-) That's just me though! I think the 350 is going to be an absolutely track monster and I cannot wait to get my hands on one.

Give the GTPP it's own engine as a true Performance Package. We keep hearing the rumors about the 5.2 flatplane crank. How about a 5.2 crossplane crank for the GTPP. A North American only 3.5 TT option would be pretty sweet too.

I genuinely hope the GT500 nameplate lives on. I think a smaller displacement 5.2L TT sounds like a great platform for the 500. 5.2L NA for the GT350, 5.2L or 5.4L TT for the GT500.

Those CAFE requirements are seriously forcing everyone to think outside the box and with EFFICIENCY research, POWER delivery is going to be awesome!

In the future, I think I-4 engines in the econo models will get smaller as efficiency goes up, but the performance engines (V8) will likely stay around 5.0L-5.4L and get TT and heads that flow an incredible amount. Not to mention friction lowering techniques and efficient designs.

I think the S550 2015 Mustang is a great ground up platform to implement this.
