Redline

With my 2016 GT/CS auto when driving in the S+ mode my instrument cluster flashes red when I hit redline - sometimes? I like the feature and would like it activate all the time. What am I missing?

It only happens when the headlights are on.

Aha - that makes sense. I have my headlights set on auto so I'm not really sure when they are on (cloudy day, etc.). Thanks for getting back to me.

hmmmmm . . . . seems like there should be some way to activate it when the lights are not on; isn't it a track-oriented thing, effectively an "upshift light" ?

It would seem there should be. I drive in the normal or S+ modes and would like to it activated all the time. I'll try the track mode and see if there is a difference.

oops, I just realized your car is an automatic, I was thinking of manual -- does it redline itself when it is shifting itself, or only in manual mode?
(just curious)

Yup - the MT-82 drove me to the lonely left foot. I know it hits redline in the S+ and track modes - not sure about the normal mode. When I hammer it I tend to look through the windshield more than looking down at the tach. With an auto you know it's going to shift This sounds like an excuse for more experimentation.

There is a little green telltale in the instrument cluster that is on when the headlights are on. On my digital dash it is in the lower left corner of the tach (when in normal mode). If you have fog lights, there is an additional telltale that lights up when they are on.

You are correct and I do have both of those icons. I've tried several daytime redline runs with both the lights on and off in all three driving modes. The only time I notice the instrument cluster flash red is when the car senses it's dark outside. I don't usually jump on it in the dark so I guess it's a feature I'll seldom see.
