Tire size question

Does anyone know what is the widest tire I can put on the back of my 96 Cobra without making adjustments. I am going to buy new rims and tires and would like to go wider on the rear, I am currently running BFG 275/40/17 rear and 245/40/17 front.. I am going to 18" rims and would like to mabye run something like 295 rear and mabye stay with 245 front. any suggestions, I am getting deep dish bullit rims / black with the deep machined outer lip. I think they will look badass.. 18x10 r 18x9 fr..

94 - 98 Mustangs can take a 10.5 inch wide wheel in the rear with a 315/30-18 tyre on it. That is the widest. There was a write up in one of the mustang magazines. You may have to move the exhaust a bit to fit them......

I have 295/30-18 on the rear of mine and they are pretty big. They fully fill the guards

Good article but here is what it says for 18" rims for my 96. ( "18-inch: 18x9 with 6-inch backspacing front and rear. Use 255/35 tires") Something is not right here, because I have 275s on the rear now and looks like I have room left to go wider.I looked in your gallery and I see that the 295's fit nicely,Think I will believe your advice and my two eyes on this one,Thanks. :smoke:

Your right, they do recomend 255 which everyone knows you can fit up to 315 on our cars. I went for 295's for $$$ coz the 315's were a lot more money here in Oz ! Mine just clear my exhaust. Any wider and I would have had to modify it slightly.

looks nice nazz, is that lowered, cuz it looks like it could definitely use it. my cobra needs a good lowering too.but those wheels look pretty nice. whats the size of the sidewall? is it 35 or 30? those look like a real low profile.
