Of all the days to get rear ended

Was so excited to take my mustang to my first American muscle car show tomorrow. That was until someone rear ended me this morning driving into work. Of all the days. Of course it has to happen the day before the show.

Got some of that VA lover action up the tail pipe. Wish they would change the motto on the plates.

Photos dont look too bad. Hopefully the fenders and sail panels aren't buckled.

They definitely are. Once I got it home and in the garage and took a closer look I'm seeing a lot more damage then I originally thought. Climbed underneath, can't tell if the frame is tweaked or the exhaust is damaged. Need to look at it up on a lift but I'm getting transmission fluid leaking from around the pan gasket now when the engines running and found some oil leak near the back of the engine near the firewall. Can't tell where it's leaking from though. Looks like it jar'd it a bit harder then originally thought. I'm thinking that even though it wasn't a high speed impact the fact that it was a Silverado and he had a tow kit on the front there was no absorbtion of the impact as there would normally be when 2 bumpers connect. This is all speculation of course and I'll have to see what the body shop says after they get it up on a rack.
I'm worried though about the leaks. If it did that much damage I'm thinking even after it's all repaired I'm probably going to have continual problems with the car.

My goodness. That must have tossed you against the seat. I hope you aren't starting to feel aches and pains.

I figured some panel damage might have occurred but never thought there would be drivetrain issues. Fortunately leaks can be repaired but if the impact misaligned engine or transmission mounts that would be more involved to repair as you are aware. I guess all you can do is record the damage with photos and get it into the repair shop for estimates and an adjuster to let you know where you stand.

I'm sorry this happened to you, but truly hope you aren't feeling any delayed effect of the accident.

Thanks. I'm fine. Didn't seem like he hit me that hard but guess I was wrong. I just don't want to be stuck with a vehicle that has continual problems for the next 5 years and if by some chance they total it I know I won't recoup the 6 Grand in modifications that I put into it. Looks like I'm screwed either way.

So auto body shop is estimating it at 9 Grand right now. They are sending it to a dealership to investigate a trans leak and oil leak I pointed out to them.

Sounds as if no repairs made yet. What did the body shop identify needed repair as far as the body and frame?

And the mechanical is still an unknown. Not sounding too promising. Sorry.

Basically the entire rear bumper including the inner piece. They also have to replace all the lights, the trunk, repair the spoiler and bend the side panel piece that runs along the window of the trunk. He said the bumper was pushed in above the frame so it didn't damage the frame any.

So they totaled it. Waiting to find out what they are going to offer me. Not sure I'll ever recoup the money back from the mods. Hell I just dropped 3 Grand for the wheels, tires and exhaust in December that I'm still paying on the cc. Time to look for a new vehicle. I think I'm gonna miss the Ford sales that end on the 30th. Anyone know if Ford it's doing anything for the 4th of July?
