1997 Cobra

Today I came across a Cobra with only 64K miles. I'm setting up a viewing of the car hopefully tomorrow. Asking price is $9K which I am not willing to pay. If it blows me away I'll offer $6.5K which just short of the top KBB estimate for an excellent rating. So far the only thing I do not like about it is its green color. Yuck. We'll see and I'll keep y'all posted.

I talked with the owner to set up a time to look at the car. I let him know up front that my max offer would be $7K. He wouldn't budge from the $9K. So I'm sorry that this was such a short thread!

Give it time, it wouldn't surprise me if your phone rings in a few weeks when he has no buyers.

LOL! YUP! Still for sale! I called the owner today in order to take a look at it. The appointment is tomorrow afternoon. I'll update y'all tomorrow evening.

Nice car. With a few bolt on mods those can be really quick cars and a load of fun.

I won't be seeing the car this evening. The Tulsa area is in the process of icing up.....don't want to test drive a torquey car with a light rear end on slippery stuff.

If I end up with the car it will serve strictly as a fair weather ride aimed at visually pleasing any observers and as my own spit-shined personal trophy. It'll serve as my '14 GT did in being a compliment magnet as well as a way to feel 25 again.

According to NADA the top private party selling price for that car in this area is $7600. He wants $9K which is beyond what I am willing to pay.

I'll keep you updated.....

This afternoon I went to take a look at and drive the Cobra. Although the body and interior were in really good shape considering it's a 1997 and the engine/exhaust sounded good, other aspects of the car weren't so good:

1) It needed tires
2) The owner said that it blew out its Freon last summer but wasn't fixed
3) The CAI cone filter was black and caked
4) Steering was loose and pulled to one side
5) Weird noises came from the rear end as I gained speed
6) With my hand on the gear shift lever I could feel the gears meshing
7) The clutch was hard to the point of being a chore to depress. Since my back "goes out" twice a year, I'd have to park the car during those episodes.

The odometer read 68K miles. The car felt more like 168K miles. Maybe it's had the crap run out of it. But I think I'll pass on this one!!!!
