Ball joint issue 1997 Mustang v6

I have a 97 mustang v6 stock. My ball joint was squeeking really loud the other day so I went to repair it. AutoZone says I need part #104226. when I got home and got the old ball joint out I noticed it was too small. I returned it and found that all of the value craft were the same size. I switched brands to the duralast and it fit perfectly however when I installed it I ripped the boot so I went and returned it again and got another one of the same brand and model number. This time the ball joint is to small again. The people at autozone went through all the ball joints with that part number and used a calaper to mesure them and found that the sizes are not consistant. This is becoming a major hassle. I have gone through 9 different ball joints and all of them are to small. They are I have tried ball joints from all different manufactors none of them are working. This what should have been an hour repay job has now turned into a 3 day pain in the neck. Please someone help me find some sanity.

I dont wan't to bash autozone but just a little advice i wouldnt go there for any suspension parts, while they do have decent prices you'll be much better off by going to a napa or bumber to bumber if one is in your area and get a moog part they are alot better quality but as for the varieness in size ive never heard of anything such as that

Ran into the same problem with auto zone tie rod ends for a caddilac. Went back 3 times and they were all the wrong ones! Definately go with moog. Bumper to bumper carries moog too.
