What gears for a 1998 Auto V6?

Hey guys,

I'm blueprinting my project. I'm rebuilding my 3.8L to a stroked 4.2L split port. What gears should I use?

I'd like to keep the car N/A and as a DD. Should I use 3.55/3.73/4.10s?

Thanks.

I've read that the rule of thumb is auto go 4.10s, if manual go 3.73s. Are 4.10s to hard on the motor/tranny if used as a DD specifically on the highway?

Yup, that's the rule of thumb! :yelpleased: I wouldn't say gears are hard on the tranny/motor -- you have to worry more about the differential than anything. Which is why you need an 8.8 after a certain point...

LOL

I must've had dyslexia: I thought it read "5.0" and something to do with the new Coyotes. (like "what would 5.0L have done")

+1 on 4.10's

Remember whatever you do (3.73s or 4.10s) you are going to see a huge jump in acceleration. The stock gearing is only 2.73 in 94-98 V6s.
