My first time changing the oil....need suggestions...

Every other oil change has been done at shops or by somebody else, I believe I have 10W-30 in it right now. What oil would be best for me to get? 10W-30 again? I live in California, it gets around 34-40 degrees here in the Valley. Also...I have a newer engine...less than 17k miles in an 85 V6 however I keep having small leaking issues, which I was told a "High Mileage" oil would fix because it would seal everything. I haven't drove the car in over 2 months so now there's a pile of sludge-y oil that has leaked out, she's crying for an oil change
Any help is appreciated

i would stay with the 10w-30

just try starting it up at least every now and then, when its cold like this the seals start to shrink. if i let mine sit in this cooler weather for more than a week without starting it. it will start to get a little wet or even start a small puddle under the car.i only use valvoline in my mustang

+1 and I would stick to the 10W30.

You may also want to look at trying something like the Lucas Oil Oil Conditioner. It is good at helping with a lot of the seals. Also start it up and let it run every few days like said before.

The oil pan is leaking. But the transmission is leaking also, so its really grimey under the car, I tighten the seals every 4 months or so but it always starts leaking again. I plan to replace the seals once I get the time/money.
Thanks guys, I'll stick to the 10w30. I'll look for the Lucas Conditioner, I didn't know they made an Oil Conditioner.
I haven't started it up lately since its covered under a bunch of tarps. :/
