The T5 from the V6 won't bolt right up. For a 99 Cobra motor you need a T45 (factory trans) or T3650.

A V8 is not a direct bolt in. There are a tremendous amount of supporting changes that need to be made to put in the V8. It's never worth doing this swap unless you got a great deal on a complete running parts car and you are gona do all the mechanical work yourself.

Did you also get the complete hydroboost brake setup? You also need the instrument cluster & keys that are tied to that computer so that PATS does not disable the fuel system. There is alot more involved in this swap than you seem to be planning for. This guy is out of his mind for doing this job for $300, I wouldn't charge under $1K to do it, even for a friend.

4.6 DOHC Ford Mustang Cobra Mark 8 Hot Ratt Rod Boat - eBay (item 300507700435 end time Jan-21-11 17:34:22 PST)
Here's a nifty way to run that motor...he sells a kit for a carb and self standing distributor...you'll still need a t45 5 spd or one from any other 4.6 "mod motor" up to 2004

This is definitely doable, I've seen several V6 to GT and V6 to Cobra swaps.

I'm guessing the mechanic is pricing a simple R&R and nothing else.

Good call on the hydroboost.

PATS can be disabled at the dealer or by several of the aftermarket programmers available.

MSD makes an ignition box as well for this type of thing called 6-MOD. It's expensive. IMO carb conversion would be a very dumb idea on a newer daily driven street car. Not to mention the OEM setup would me much cheaper parts wise.

Dealers will not disable PATS for you. They will reprogram it, but they won't disable it. Same goes for aftermarket programmers, they can't touch PATS. You need a dealer level scan tool to get into it.

Maybe the handheld ones can't. Sniper special forces specifically says it can disable pats. I think twEECer would be able to as well.
