Odd start up noise, any ideas?

I have a 2000 3.8L and whenever i start the car it sounds like a fan coming on (which it isn't) but much louder, from listening around it sounds as if its coming from near the crank pulley. During cold start up it makes the noise for awhile then stops. when warm it stops pretty soon. I'm at a loss for what this could be, anyone have the same noise? Or know what it could be? Thanks.

Is it a whine? Then it could be the power-steering pump (no big deal, it's a Ford thing ). Is it more of a screech? Then it could be a worn bearing in the idler pulley or the alternator.
