can you delete a 2000 mustang v6's air pump?

Is it possible to just delete the air pump on a 2000 mustang 3.8L v6. My state only does visual for emissions and most of the time all they look for are the cats. It is pulling codes now so I know it is bad. If I don't need it can I just remove it and plug up the holes, and will this cause problems with my pcm at all???

It will not cause problems if you block off the canister, but you will continue to get codes until you either fix it, or turn off the emissions items......

What all do I need to "turn off", and how or what is the best way of going about all this. If you don't mind answering that is?
