How do I get the E-brake/Parking Brake handle off?

I bought this shift/ebrake handle a long time ago for my 89 SHO but it's gone now but I kept the handle I bought... wanted to put it on the e-brake but I can't get the OEM cover off.... is it a form fit and slipped on like the handles on golf clubs or is it molded onto the metal... I thought about cutting the handle lengthwise but was wondering if there is an alternate way...

I would think they molded it to the handle, but you could try a blow dryer/heat gun to see if that will loosen it up enough to come off.
