2004 Mustang 5-sp 3.9 Long Tube Headers or Shorties?

New to the forum and I have an 04 3.9L with a five speed, I was looking to put some headers on and was wondering which ones I could still use with the factory converters. Current exhaust, is dual at the y pip with thrush welded mufflers and stock manifolds.

only the shorties can be used with the factory midpipe and converters... longtubes require an exhaust redo

Shorty headers do nothing so scratch them off the list. If you want to retain that factory cats keep what you have.

With longtubes, you are going to have to remove the factory cats. You will then have to get a "shorty" H or X pipe. That can be either catted or catless. Just know that you are going to lose at least two of the factory cats (four total).

If you really want to keep the factory cats (the most restrictive part of our exhaust) at least have a shop remove the Y-pipe and make your exhaust true dual.

I have access to all the equipment to do so, I'm a Subaru mechanic, I was just looking for some advice on exhaust, currently looking into the windstar intake. I appreciate any advice given. I just don't want to do too much with the factory cats since I only have 16k on the car.
