You may want to pose an actual question. That's a really broad topic!

Sorry bout being so vague.... What I have is a 99 6 with a blown 3.8 and I'm considering a 4.2 swap. I have a mechanic that has done it before but with an earlier model (97 4.2 going into a 96 mustang) but there was a check engine light because supposedly there was something that didn't match up. (He cannot recall what it was as he has done dozens of other engine jobs since then). I work for a towing and auto recycling service and we have several 4.2's on the rack. I am planning on using a 2002 4.2 out of an E150. The 4.2 is just a bored and stroked 3.8 right? is there anything that won't match up or will I be able to just strip the 4.2 down to the block, bolt on the 3.8 intake, headers, flex plate, cam sensor and accessories and be good to go with no check engine light?

He already knows that and is quite comfortable being one. Now you have made yourself look like an ass for coming in here and only contributing that nonsense....

The 02 engine should be pretty much a direct bolt in. If I were you I'd even go through the trouble and make the F150 upper manifold work, although you may need a cowl hood.

1988 Mustang LX coupe will miss you greatly

you can only use the 3.8 flex plate from the 99 (which is externally balanced) if the 4.2 is also externally balanced otherwise if its balanced internally, you need a neutral flexplate
