If you don't change the cam, the MOST you can pick up from a CAI and dual exhaust is 17-20 in the BEST of conditions. And that's for a 99+ car, for a pre-98, it'll be 20-25% less because the engine simply cannot flow that much air.

CAI may get you anywhere from 5-12 hp, depending on heatsoak, quality of filter, and flow.

2" is perfect for exhaust tubing, you lose a lot of hp & tq when you install 2.5" exhaust pipes or larger.

h-pipes generally give you a bit more torque, x-pipes more hp -Generally.

If you're planning to open the engine up wnt do a port & polish, go with 2.25" if you're planning to remain mainly stock, go with 2"

ok, so what would you recomand, hp or torque? I dont plan on gears cuz of the cost, so i was thinking h pipe to help get more torque.

h-pipe's cheaper (usually around $75) as opposed to $400 for a good x-pipe (bad ones are cheaper, but offer no better performance than an h-pipe.

the cheapest place used to be Summit Racing. They used to offer the pacesetter adapter for $75. Given the dive of the dollar the past few years, I reckon it MAY be $85-90, unless they still have old pipes left over. But we've been pushing 'em for a while.

the site of origin is pacesetterexhaust.com

MAc also offers an h-pipe adapter, but I'm leery of their quality.

DON'T go for the full h-pipe!!! it costs a lot more, and is intended for long tube headers.

What you need is the ADAPTER, and that's it!

Ok, so when i get he exhaust redone, i should use 2'' pipe and the "H" pipe adapter. Do u recomand any mufflers? as of now, i dont have any and it sounds real nice, almost like a mild v8 (i have headers also).

sound is subjective, if you want more "basso" you'll need a straight pipe like magnaflow, or bassani, of you want a "performance" not you'll want something from spintech, flowmaster, etc. you can tune with the tail pipe aft of the mufflers as well, wider tailpipes give mellower tones . ..

you used to be able to run to mustangexhaust.com and listen for clips.

yep, there's a pretty good article in MMFF on tuning exhaust for sound.

GT pipes are 2.5" and you'll lose hp & tq, but it'll sound good.

It's also the cheapest. If you go that route, you need to install reducer pipes, (your muffler shop guy will know what it is, in the front part to the system to get the real diameter down to 2.0"-2.25".

But once you install the reducers, it's about the same price as some of the others . .

Or you could leave the exhaust the way it is and install a N2O kit. Best bang for the buck, start with a 50 shot and tune for more.
