quick help! 98 stang

ok so its a nice day today, and i've decided to go with just a K&N drop in filter..... thing is though, i dont have the owners manual on the car... so i need some tips on changing the stock filter and taking off the intake..... looks a bit more complex than any other setup i've worked with before.......what is the wire that connects to it? what should i do with it? i think thats the MAF.........any advice would be great before i just start pullin stuff off..
thanks in advance

there should be three clasps that you have to unlatch to pop open the air box. Once open you can pull out the old filter and drop in the new one.
