Catalytic Converter Help!

I just realized that one of my catalytic converters is damaged in my 1996 mustang...I was wondering how long I can drive with it without doing serious damage to my car (if any)? Second, I have a friend back home who said he could clean out both catalytic converter casings so essentially it would be 2 catalytic converters with just the outer casings (no inner parts)...my question is would this hurt/help horsepower? Would it make my car sound better/worse keeping in mind I have dual 40 series flowmasters? Thanks for the help!

If it plugs, it could cause some power losses and a CEL,

If you hollow them out, it's basically zero-sum. Though you may get a CEL.

It will be louder if they're hollowed out.

Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness, his upper rooms by injustice, making his countrymen work for nothing...Does it make you a king to have more and more cedar?Did not your father have food and drink? He did what was right and just,so all went well with him. He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well...But your eyes and your heart are set only on dishonest gain,on shedding innocent blood and on oppression and extortion.
