Exclamation Horrible Gas Mileage

I have a 2002 manual transmission V6 Mustang with 58,000 miles. I don't beat on it and regular maintenance is performed. Lately I've been having some problems. This winter, it began to flood and would not start. Therefore, my mechanic clean all spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, and adjusted the throttle because the idle was off. My idle has continued to be off and gas mileage has been horrible (it was 23 per gallon, now it's under 18). The idle sometimes goes from 1500 on startup down to almost 0 then back up, and at some point it figures out where it wants to be. Also, there are times when it seems like I'm pushing the throttle because the idle is so high.

Anyway, tps checked out, 02 sensors have been replaced, spark plugs cleaned, air filter cleaned, and fuel filter cleaned. After reading these forums, my assumption is that next I need to check EGR valve, MAF, and the idle control sensor. Am I missing anything?

You said the Air Filter was cleaned? Is it a K&N filter?

If so, you may have a dirty MAF, which would cause al your problems. Over oiling the filter is common.

If it IS a K&N filter, try spraying computer contact cleaner on the MAF sensor.

Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness, his upper rooms by injustice, making his countrymen work for nothing...Does it make you a king to have more and more cedar?Did not your father have food and drink? He did what was right and just,so all went well with him. He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well...But your eyes and your heart are set only on dishonest gain,on shedding innocent blood and on oppression and extortion.
