any suggestions on noise

hi my name is matt i recently purchased a 2002 mustang 3.8l. about four weeks ago my car started making a whining noise so i put the car on jack stands and it sounds like its coming from the rear end. i took the car to a mechanic and he said it was the carrier bearing i then spoke to another mechanic as well as a couple of friends and they said my car does not have a carrier bearing. The noise gets higher pitched the faster you go and does not change when you swerve or when you punch the gas. I am 95 percent sure it is coming from the rear end. I am at my whits end any suggestions?

Manual or automatic?
