I have 17x9 all around, No rubbing unless under full lock to one side but it's not bad to the point of wearing away the rubber on the tires, but of course, you could go a size smaller on the sidewall than I have... I posted all about it earlier...

Last month switched to an 18x10 rear with a 305/40 Drag Radial. 2nd pic is the comparison. 3rd is side view obviously..

Have you tried the Continental ExtremeContact DW? According to Tirerack.com it is slightly better in almost every category and are cheaper... I have them on my car and love them... I used to be able to do burnouts, now with these I can't...

Edit: Also I broke a Diff while attempting to go from Drive to Reverse too fast, that's how much grip these tires have... but then again, it could have been just the jump from D to R (I gave a good 2 seconds before hitting the gas in reverse, but when it finally engaged it hit hard!
