History
This restoration has been a long process. The car started life in West Texas. I saw it on the side of the road with a for sale sign on it in 1999. The body was in great shape, with no rust mainly due to the dry climate. All the sheet metal is original except the hood and door panels. I swapped the hood for a Shaker aftermarket.

It started life as a 302 Mach 1 Clone. It appears that someone parted out a Mach 1 and drove the bejesus out of it. When I bought the car it barely ran and needed a lot of work. I like the look of the car so I tried to stay with the Mach 1 theme.

The car had a special place in my heart from the beginning. It reminded me of the first project car me and the old man were working on when I was 15. It was a 1970 Boss 429. We were having a heated discussion at the time about whether or not to pull the original four-speed transmission and swap it with an FMX automatic. This was around 1972. My dad was a former B52 Crew Chief and loved all things mechanical. A Ford guy, master mechanic a garage owner. He passed before my 16th birthday, thus my love for Ford Mustangs.

The care disappeared after his passing, but I never forgot it.

Back to this car.... Originally I was going to rebuild the 302. Race cam, Dart 202 heads, Tremec 5 spd, but after several years of dream and modifications I just couldn't settle on what I really wanted to do to the car. I was living in Midland texas at the time and my career landed me back in my hometown.

Fast forward, after moving back to HTown a met a man that had a Ford restoration business and I began to pick his brain about the car. So after several years of indecision and modifications, I finally made the decision to let him help me finish the car.

He had a nice numbers matching 428 Cobra Jet waiting on a project-worthy project and the rest is history. When people ask me if the project is finished, I always say for a season.... It's a beast!
