gear ratio

Hey guys, I am trying to figure out what my differential gear ratio is. to do this I am marking my drive shaft and tire and spinning it accordingly to determine the ratio. Here's the problem, I have an aftermarket aluminum drive shaft (either 3.5 or 4.0) so I need to compensate for the extra...

took some time to make an article about gear ratios and how they can affect your ride based on how things appear on paper and not off real world events. leave comments and let me know if you enjoyed it. may make a few more depending on how this turns out. Grinding Gears and Crunching Ratios...

Hi guys, This is my first post here, and I have to say I'm really excited. I need some input and advice from those with more experience than myself in the realm of Mustangs. I am now 26, and have wanted a Mustang for my whole life. Now, as a professional, I can afford to make that dream...

On my 68 I have a stock 8in with 3.00 ratio, my plans are to put the edelbrock pro flo EFI 2 on it. I'm not sure if I should rebuild the 8in and put 3.80 in it, because I do have a complete ford 9in that I was given for free. I've heard so much about people putting the 9in on muscles, even...

I finally got my Vortech installed - not difficult at all! Now I'm looking at the axle - with the increased hp there's just not enough traction, so I plan to get a GT axle. I found a new takeoff dealer with decent prices. Question is, what gear set do I go for? They have all options, 3.31...

Regarding "deep" gears in the rear differential: has anyone out there (V6, V8, 4-banger, Ford, Chevy, etc., but especially the 2011 V6 'Stang) ever installed rear differential gears so deep as to render 1st gear virtually useless? Did this produce the desired effect of launching harder and...

Hi guys, I have a 1966 coupe with a stock 289 v8 and c4 transmission. I wanted to swap out the stock gears in the rear end (I believe they're 3.00:1) so that I have a faster acceleration. I was looking at some sets and saw a 3.25:1 and a 3.55:1 ratio set. Any thoughts???

I am a new 2011 V6 owner. I love the car at higher speed but feel that that the acceleration is sluggish down low. I want to replace the stock 2.73s with 3.73 but I have a few questions. (Forgive me if these are dumb questions..!) First of all: 1.) Would I notice a significant improvement in...

Hey guys I'm new to all ford mustangs and this is actually my first post. I've had my 2003 Mustang V6 for a few months now and I've always wanted more power. I got offered a 1997 Mustang GT for $1800, the GT is in great condition but it's a soft top and I'm not really into soft tops. But if i...

Just finished installing my tci street fighter transmission a couple weeks ago and i went to drive it on the freeway and i could not do no more then 60 maybe 70 pushing it with the high rpms had to bring it down real quick, i have 4:10 gears and a 2500 stall in it with shift kit motor has a few...

Has anyone ever ran a stock V6 Mustang 5 speed with 3.73 gears down the 1/4 mile? I'm seriously thinking about swapping to 3.73's but only if it gets me to 15's
  13. 5.0L Talk
Hi 5.0 lovers! I am wondering if anyone knows the rear end gear ratio for a stock 1988 GT? I found a deal on an 8.8 that I am thinking of putting in my Turbo Stang, but the guy selling it said that gear ratio was 2.73, when I am pretty sure it is supposed to be 3.73. 2.73 would be great for...

Good day all, I own a 2007 Mustang GT. I am beginning to enjoy all the opportunities we have in modifying and upgrading. I've installed a BBK cold air intake--really improved power and has a very nasty growl during acceleration. Installed the Hurst short throw shifter about a year back too...

I have the hardest time trying to understand why you would want smaller gears(bigger numerically) in your stang. Can anyone tell me how it benefits your performance. I think my car turns the 3.55's great. Please help, I'm gear handicapped...along with other things.:happyhapp

My buddy has a 2003 Mustang GT and he wants to know what kind of speeds he can hit with the 3.73 gears and what kind of rpm's he'll be doing at higher speeds... Any ideas?

I've read that they came with 2.73's, but when I jack the car up and rotate the rear tires, I'm getting somewhere around 3.3 revolutions of the driveshaft per wheel rotation. Did the 96 5 speed come with 3.27's, or 3.3 somethings, or has a previous owner done a gear swap? I've searched for...
