I read that in the beginning, the headlight switch was on the left & the wiper switch was on right. But at some point, they changed it because alot of people would reach for the window handle and accidentally turn off the headlights while driving in the dark. When did this change take place...

Last night I pulled my headlight switch out in order to turn my headlights on and the knob ended up coming off the post. Can I reattach it to the post or do I have to replace the entire switch?
